Best Measures to Use Against Swine Flu (Good Tips)

Whether or not it turns out to be bad or not, here are some simple things you can do (and most you should do anyway) to prevent contracting or spreading swine flu.

  1. Wash Hands

This is a very basic thing that you should do anyway, but make sure to wash your hands frequently. Don't just do a quick job, wash in as hot of water as you can stand with lots of soap, for a full minute. Also, make sure to was up past your wrists.

  2. Buy Respirators

Go to your local hardware store and buy some respirators, you know the masks that you use to paint or sand things. The best respirator to get is anything N95 rated as they are well designed to keep small particulates out. Keep them around in case you happen to have an outbreak in you home town. If you need to go out, put one on and it should help (not 100%) prevent getting sick.

  3. Hand Sanitizer

Use a hand sanitizer and use it often when out and about where you can't wash your hands. Make sure that the hand sanitizer is 60% alcohol, or it won't be effective. Also, remember that hand sanitizer does not replace washing, as hand sanitizer will not remove fecal particles.

  4. Check the CDC Website

The CDC website is updated quite frequently and should be checked daily for updates.

  5. Track the Spread on Google

Google has been a wealth of great information and now you can track the spread of the swine flu with it. Clcik the picture below to link to Google:

  6. Don't Panic

Don't panic. If you act in a level headed manner, everything should be alright. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms, and be ready to react only when you know for sure that something is wrong. The last thing we need is for hospitals to be crammed full of panickers.

  7. Wear Surgical Mask if Sick

Most people believe that wearing a mask is only to prevent catching something. Not true. If you get sick, put on a surgical mask so that you don't cough or sneeze on anyone. Do this especially if you have to go to the hospital so you don't get any non-infected people sick.

  8. Stay Home if You Feel Sick

The title says it all. Don't get your co-workers or fellow classmates sick. Even if you don't think you're very sick, it doesn't matter. Just stay home at a time like this.
